Eleven years of trials and triumphs towards
a world without desaparecidos

Eleven Years of Trials and Triumphs

We 'take off our hats to you all'  and so admire your courage  in face of 'difference'.

alan and Kate Harmer, Switzerland

Long live the AFAD
and long live our
struggle against impunity.
Eleven years of our
struggle have not changed
the world but have made
it more gloomy and sad
but we have been able to
create a powerful voice
against disappearance and
impunity.

Farooq Niazi
Truth and Justice
Commission (TJC)
Pakistan

With you we call upon
the governments to
come out with the
truth, about what
happened to your
loved ones, to give
justice to families
and to give redress
to the loved ones
that stay behind!

Gerard and Milleth
Prickaerts
Maastricht,
The Netherlands

Insistence,
perseverance and solidarity
are key values that you in AFAD
and in the Philippines have
long demonstrated by your
dedication to the Desaparecidos
that these are the pillars
your movement so you can
be assured of the triumph of
truth and justice sooner than
you imagine. Best wishes then,
feliz cumpleaños
and a big hug
for you all!

Patricio Rice of FEDEFAM
Buenos Aires, Argentina

We pray and hope that
your strength in this
ardent struggle never
will falter and your hope
for a world without
disappearances never
be destroyed.
United with all of you in
love and solidarity.

Christine Klissenbauer

I would like to extend to you the love
and warm greetings for the 11th
anniversary of the AFAD. It has
been an advance for all your
member-organizations
... and from this moment,
we shall continue more than ever in
working and struggling for the defense
of Memory, Truth and Justice...

Martha Ocampo de Vasquez
Madres de Plaza de Mayo -

We urge you to continue
the road of struggles
that today reaches 11 years,
without flagging in your efforts to know
the truth. We must not give way to the
voices that urge us to forgive, to forget
and to reconcile. We have to insist in our
determination to forgive, but we have
to know who. Yes we want to forget, but
with the knowledge of what happened
and the commitment never
to let it happen again.
Then, we can begin the
road to reconciliation.

Towards a World Without Desaparecidos...

Since the day of its establishment
AFAD is struggling for a world without
pain of uncertainty
– a world without desaparecidos.

Irina Krasovskaya and Svetlana Zavadskaya,
We Remember-Belarus
Washington, DC

I am aware of all the difficulties
and the serious obstacles that
you have to overcome every day
and I would like to express
you my most sincere support
and admiration. These straits make
all the more outstanding the many
achievements of the AFAD,
which produce a true positive
impact on the lives of relatives
of the disappeared in
Asian countries and worldwide.

Gabriella Citroni
Professor of International Human Rights Law at the University of
Milano-Bicocca International
Legal Adviser of the Federación Latinoamericana de Asociaciones de
Familiares de Detenidos -Desaparecidos (FEDEFAM)
Milano, Italy

You have gained
international recognition
and you have established links
with family organisations
around the world. Thus, your
endeavours have made borders
to vanish. The challenges that
lie ahead are many, but I
am sure with your strength,
inventiveness and patience
you will move forward.

Annette Fingscheidt
German Coalition Against Impunity
Wuppertal, Germany

Aim for Human Rights has
great admiration for those all
at AFAD who have been refusing to
surrender and just accept the fate of
the disappeared will not be revealed and
the author of the violation will remain
unpunished. Your commitment and
tenacity are an inspiration to many other
families in many parts of the world.

Director - Aim for Human Rights,
